I came to
know of this place through a friend. Being half Sindhi, I had mixed feelings
about it to be honest. The reason behind that is simple. My experience with
places that serve sindhi food hasn’t been so good so far and when I came to
know that the entire menu offers just sindhi cuisine and nothing else, I was
quite determined to see if they’re actually up to the task or if it is just
like other restaurants that serve regionalized specifications.
So I decided
to make a visit with 3 of my friends who happen to love Sindhi cuisine. They
place is quite small and usually you’ll find a good parking spot that would be
walking distance away. Also, the place isn’t difficult to locate. The décor is
quite simple with a few paintings explaining the Sindhi culture adorning the
wall. The seating is minimalistic and spaced out and the chairs are quite
comfortable. The service was very quick and efficient and the staff was polite
and courteous. We loved the start to our night.
When we were
handed the menu, it seemed quite a precise one but on closer scrutiny, it
seemed to cover every aspect of the modern Sindhi cuisine. It is more of a café
than a restaurant so if you’re looking for Sai bhajji or Khand bhuga chawar,
then you’re in for a disappointment. But you’ll find all the chaat variants and
the fritters like sanna pakoda and koki and chole samosa and what not!
Now since we
had gone there at dinner time and the menu was quite café=-ish, given our diets
we knew we won’t be done with just 2 or 3 dishes. And we said to ourselves,
it’s just chaat! But man we were wrong, and how! One after the other the dishes
were presented and the quantities were exceptionally unbelievable for their
prices. No air conditioned café in Ahmedabad in my knowledge serves such
quantities with such good flavor at such rates. We were very impressed. But
after 5 dishes we asked them if they hadn’t already prepared the remaining
dishes, we would like to cancel them as we were quite finished. But even as we
spoke those words, another waiter came in with the rest of our order! Although
we were almost full to the brim, the taste of their food was so good that we
did try the remaining two dishes, however we could not finish them. For obvious
reasons! ;)
It is an
absolutely lovely place for chaat lovers in the city. It could be your next
hang out place because of the variety that they provide and the throw away
prices! A highly recommended place for all those looking for quick savory delights
that are also filling!
Bon Apetit !
