Deepraj De Kulche - Ahmedabad

Deepraj De Kulche Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

The place is located in a vicinity that has a multitude of restaurants. Given their building it self hosts at least 5 major restaurants, would give you the idea of how difficult it would be for you to manage a parking spot if you intend to visit them on a weekend. But we cannot blame them for that, surely. So once you've safely arrived there and found a spot for your car, you'll usually find either a queue waiting outside the restaurant or people sitting in their waiting area inside, i.e. on a weekend. But after so long in Ahmedabad, the one thing that we have realised is that never to judge a place by the line waiting outside. So we waited patiently for our turn and were seated after 15 minutes of the ceremonial waiting time spent taking selfies and admiring the village-look-and-feel sort of dhaba-ish interiors of the place.

Now when we saw the Indian styled low lying dining tables we got all super excited but when we actually went and sat there, it struck us that having a meal there was not going to be an easy task. We went ahead by placing the order. The staff was a mixed bunch. Some were very jovial and the others quite cross, I am guessing that had something to do with the weekend rush. Nevertheless, the service was quick. The place was tidy and neat and the ambiance was decent. It was packed to the brim so naturally it was very noisy.

Now we adjusted and re-adjusted ourselves at the low lying heavily cushioned dining tables in order to find a comfortable posture that would make us feel relaxed and still keep a convenient distance between us and the table. Guess what! We failed miserably. Our soup arrived. Corn and Tomato soup. The soup wasn't sweet as it usually is at other restaurants and we liked that but it had a very strong after taste of full aromatics that may not go well with everyone. Also, the sweetness of the corn did not do much to mask the after taste. Then came in their famed kulchas. Now before i write anything else, I'll say one thing. The quantity per serving, when it comes to the kulchas is enough for two people with a very good appetite. The kulchas looked lovely. Perfectly cooked and loaded with butter, not to forget the butter that accompanied it in a small katori. We were given onions and relishes and chutneys that went very well with the kulchas. The menu was so extensive that we did want to try something more, but the main course left us so full that we could not order any further. The place is decent and quite good when it comes to food (not necessarily authentic) and loaded with fat! So if you don't mind that, you'll like the place immensely if the low uncomfortable seating and the long queue isn't an issue.

Bon Appetit!
