Inder Residency has been a long standing structure with quite a prominence and you'd already know that if you've known the town long enough. But if something is set up ages ago, it is bound to change with the times. True for everyone, even these guys have decided to do the same. Not that it had hit rocks or anything but the thing with growing cities like ahmedabad is that all the new and per se happening places come up on the developing outskirts and the previously popular destinations tend to be sidelined by this boom of new comers. And it's true for all businesses not just the restaurant or the hotel industry. But if you maintain your standards, I bet no matter how far away you are, people would still flock to your place.
We were recently invited by the owners to try out their new menu alongside the monsoon festival menu catered especially for the season. And it came as a surprise to me because for me, Inder has been sort of an age old tradition but to see that they are changing with the times and having bloggers over a table was nice. It was a quaint monsoon afternoon and we were there for lunch. The place did bring back some old memories. The elegance and the suave was still present. One should not leave the hand of the guiding past. Which is what they've done so well. The courteous and jovial staff was welcome. The restaurants have been re arranged with new settings and fittings.
We were served with a welcome drink which indeed was quite refreshing. Followed by tandoori masala bhutta which basically is corn on the cob that has been roasted in a pit with some Indian spices. The flavours of the masala complimented the sweetness in the corn perfectly. Next in line were some chaats which again were delectable. The tangyness from the chutney and the sweetness from the jaggery and the spiciness of chillies went well with the patties and the chilled yogurt. Starters too were quite impressive. The galauti kebabs were soft and succulent and melt in your mouth tender. That is hard to get in a town like ahmedabad, trust me.
Their take on the presentation of the popular street food of pani puri too was quite nice. At such a place you don't want all the drippings falling all over you, so they serve individual puris already stuffed with the masala with a shot glass that contains the pani. Not innovative per se but mighty convenient. The sizzlers too were very nicely presented and the taste lacked in nothing. The place is a perfect combination of vegetarian and non vegetarian cuisine that has everything from street food to fine dine not to forget that it is multi cuisine too! So Indian Chinese Italian and a lot more at one place, from soups to dessert is quite an achievement in itself.
But the pièce de résistance that day for me was the laal maas. A typical speciality of udaipur in Rajasthan. It was so well cooked that I was plain ecstatic eating that. You would think I am exaggerating but in fact it was quite orgasmic. But then again I am a hard-core non vegetarian so don't blame me. My vegetarian friends loved the veg main course too. So all in all it was a charm. Do visit them and try out all these new detectable varieties that they've curated especially for you and do let me know in the comments as to how your experience was.
Bon appetite! :)
